The 2009 Innovator Awards

awardOn the following pages are the stories of 11 innovations in financial IT. The solutions described on these pages range from implementing new data standards for increasing the transparency of financial data, to automating business processes, to developing components that speed the development of new insurance products, and much more. Each of these 11 winning ideas began with someone who saw a problem in the industry that could be fixed with technology, and was willing to break the status quo to try to solve it. Embarking on these projects often involved perseverance, the risk of criticism and great leaps of faith. In more practical terms, the efforts involved asking budget directors for funding for projects that were unproven, or in the case of Jaidev Shergill, our first innovator, it involved making the commitment to leave a firm like Citigroup to start something new. To the 11 winners of the Innovator Awards for 2009, we congratulate and salute you, for your inspiration, for your hard work, for your determination, and for your success.
